Yea, sounds a little contradictory doesn't it? Well went like this. In preparation for surgery the anaesthesiologist (thank you spell check) set up a nerve block for my shoulder. This completely numbs the shoulder. Also the arm except for the fingers and some parts of the left side of the body. Including affecting the diaphragm. Makes breathing a little bit interesting. But was a little bit doped up and didn't notice too much. Then they wheeled me into the op room and moved me onto the operating table. Well, since I'm a fairly big guy at 6' and 320lbs I needed to provide some assistance. This literally took my breath away. I was suddenly desperate to take in air and every time I did my chest hurt. Did you know when you say 'chest pains' prior to surgery they become a bit reluctant to continue?
Ok, so surgery is cancelled. I'm told to see a cardiologist. My ortho surgeon is setting that up. Btw, he's a great doctor. Dr Amit Sahasrabudhe. Yes, just like it's spelled. Ok fine right? No surgery. Go home. Enjoy the rest of my day off. Hmmmm, not so much. Remember me mention the nerve block? First paragraph, third sentence? Yea that. Spent the rest of the day unable to lie down because it was too hard to breath. And I was exhausted. One of the worst days I've had in a long time. (I'd say worst day ever, but then I'd have to say 'so far').
I think next time I'll skip the nerve block and just deal with the pain.
